Faculty of Civil Engineering organized a workshop on improving teaching methods

To align with the trend of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and following the Ministry of Construction's direction on the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the future, the Faculty of Civil Engineering has developed a program, officially announced and opened enrollment starting from 2024 - Construction Informatics (BIM in Construction).

According to the Assessment Report on the Current Status of Human Resources Quality in the Construction Sector by the Vietnam Construction Association, it is expected that in the near future, with a significant increase in Vietnam's construction demand, this sector will continue to experience growth. Projections indicate that the demand for labor in the construction industry could increase by approximately 400,000 – 500,000 workers per year. With this trend, it is estimated that the number of workers in the construction industry could reach 12-13 million by 2030. According to this assessment, pursuing a career in Construction Engineering Technology is not only an attractive option but also holds great potential for young people in the future.

To meet the trends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and in accordance with the Ministry of Construction's direction on the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the future, theDepartment of Civil Engineering has officially opened enrollment for a new specialization starting from 2024, namely Construction Informatics (BIM Construction).

What is Construction Informatics?

The Construction Informatics specialization (CI) is based on the combination of two fields: construction and informatics. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is becoming increasingly prominent, and the application of information technology in automating and robotizing various industries is more necessary than ever. Therefore, the Construction Informatics specialization always recognizes its mission in the training of engineers who are proficient in construction expertise and have good knowledge of information technology to apply scientific and technological advances in automating all construction sectors, contributing to the workforce development for the construction industry in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.

What do students learn in Construction Informatics?

The CI program includes a general knowledge block as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training and a specialized knowledge block related to construction and information technology (IT). Particularly, the program provides students with a system of knowledge and skills related to information management in construction (BIM - Building Information Modeling) such as BIM in Architecture, BIM in Structural Analysis, BIM in Quantity Surveying and Operation, BIM in Construction Simulation, and BIM in Energy Analysis.

What do graduates of Construction Informatics do and where do they work?

After graduation, students have the ability to apply IT to optimize various tasks in the construction industry such as project planning, design, construction, project management, and facility operation. Currently, besides construction companies, other enterprises such as information technology companies, software companies, also need Construction Informatics engineers to develop software for the construction industry. The CI sector is one of the highly anticipated sectors in the current era of Industry 4.0 technology.

FCE's young faculty, many of whom are entrepreneurs

So in 2024, the Faculty of Civil Engineering is enrolling students in the following programs:

1. Engineer of Construction Engineering Technology

- 03 specializations: Civil & Industrial Construction, Bridge & Road Construction and Construction  Informatics.

- Industry code: 7.51.01.02

- Duration: 4 years

2. Master of Civil Engineering

- Industry code: 85.80.201

- Duration: 1.5 years

3. Transfer Education Program

- 02 specializations: Civil & Industrial Construction and Bridge & Road Construction.

- Industry code: 7.51.01.02

- Duration: 18 months

Alongside the process of changing and improving the training programs, the Faculty of Civil Engineering regularly organizes professional activities focused on enhancing and changing lectures and teaching methods. Innovating teaching methods not only requires suitable infrastructure and classroom organization but also places high demands on the creative ability and application of technology in lectures by instructors.

Through these specialized activities, the teaching community of the department shares their experiences and knowledge, gradually creating digital lectures, video presentations for each section to facilitate the learning process for students in the most advantageous way.
